Bronte Charlotte is a queer Australian actor living in Naarm (Melbourne). She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and since graduating in 2018 has been working in different fields within the arts, exploring performing, writing, directing, dramaturgy, casting and producing. Last year she was a participant of the La Mama Pathways program running in partnership with Australian Plays Transform (APT) to work on a new play. She also helped to develop and performed in the new theatre piece Strange Locutions for La Mama Explorations in August.

Her first play, Pieces of Shit, was nominated for 3x Green Room Awards (Independent Theatre: Best New Writing, Best Ensemble, Best Production). Co-written and performed by Leigh Scully, Pieces of Shit had 3 seasons across 2022/23 in Melbourne and Brisbane. Along with producing, writing and performing Pieces of Shit (dir. Nick Clark) in 2022, Bronte also finished principal photography on the Melbourne based independent feature film In The Meantime (dir. Nicholas Anthony) in the lead role, for which she was also casting and co-producing. For Melbourne Fringe Festival ‘22 Bronte performed in Charlie Josephine’s Pops, directed Spinning Plates Co. new play Shut Up I’m a Vampire, and was the dramaturg for the one woman show Nu-Disco!

Bronte joined Cathy Hunt for a directing attachment on Phantasmagoria (Theatre Works ‘22), collaborated with Ellen Marning on her satirical sketch show Shticky Business for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival '22, and directed the one act play Birds in Church for Mi Casa Theatre & Ignite Productions Tales From The Vault.

In 2020, Bronte released the first season of Chats with Creatives, a podcast she created as a platform for artists in creative spaces around the world to have conversations about all facets of living as creative humans, and sharing sustainable creative practices. This project continues on with an exciting lineup of guests, now in its 4th season!

Bronte toured throughout regional Victoria with Complete Works Theatre Company in 2019, for which she played both Lady Macbeth in Macbeth and Juliet in Romeo & Juliet (dirs. Mark Wilson & Andrew Blackman). She then ended the year with a production of Where’s My Money (dir. Beng Oh) with 7th Floor Theatre Company, completing a return season in February of 2020.

While studying at the VCA, Bronte performed on stage as Henry in Henry V (dir. Leith McPherson), Mrs. Antrobus in The Skin of our Teeth (dir. Dean Bryant), and Rev. Parris in The Crucible (dir. Adena Jacobs). Bronte travelled to the Shanghai Theatre Academy to take part in the Asia Pacific Bond Theatre Schools Festival and received the Pratt Bursary for Excellence in Acting in 2017.

Bronte is originally from Brisbane, Meanjin Country. She acknowledges the Turrbal People and that sovereignty was never ceded. She is a yoga teacher and teaches drama classes for school aged children, and is passionate about mental health and human rights. Bronte is an avid theatre goer, and aims to be making theatre that is provocative and charged with discussions surrounding personal, social and political issues.

Pieces of Shit is an exciting new work written and performed by Bronte Charlotte and Leigh Scully.

Inspired by real-life stories of not-quite-making-it to the bathroom, Pieces of Shit examines the moments in life that change us forever, and explores the ways in which toxic masculinity challenges our sense of safety, morality, and self.

chats w creatives

Bronte hosts and produces the Chats with Creatives podcast, currently running its second season. It is a platform for all manner of creatives to have discussions about the industry we work in, and delve into sustainable creative practices. Guests include actors, fight choreographers, dialect coaches, writers and other creatives across different fields. Some of those guests are Leith McPherson, Lou Wall, Emily Goddard, and Leigh Scully.

In The Meantime

Bronte completed principle photography on the Melbourne based independent feature film In The Meantime, a North of the River film. She was the lead actor and co-producer for the film with writer/director Nicholas Anthony.

The first public screening of this feature is scheduled for September 2023.
